The city dwellers woke up to a soothing drizzle on Friday, putting an end to the sultry weather which has almost worn down the residents over the past one week.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) and independent weather watchers have predicted the weather to remain cloudy with forecast of light rain till the weekend. Weather watchers said that the drizzle was an effect of the active southwest monsoon in the western districts.
“Since the wind speed is high in Trichy and in the central region for the past few weeks, substantial rain is unlikely for now. However, after August 17, Trichy has a fair chance to experience a palpable amount of convectional rainfall,” N Selvakumar, an independent weather watcher said.
On Friday morning, several parts of the city, including Rockfort, Chathiram, Vayalur road and Cantonment, experienced drizzle for less than an hour. The IMD had predicted the city would be overcast till Sunday and the weather is expected to be sunny between August 12 and August 15 with the maximum temperature expected to be between 36 and 38 degree Celsius.
As the maximum temperature in the city, last week was going beyond 35 degree Celsius which is the normal maximum temperature in the ongoing month, the drizzle and cloudy condition prevailed on Friday had comforted the denizens.
