A 26-year-old woman was stabbed to death by an autorickshaw driver in Trichy on Sunday night. Police said that the murder was a fallout of a previous enmity between her husband and the auto driver.
The victim has been identified as M Uma Sathya from Gandhi Nagar. The accused was identified as N Shanmugam alias Siva Shanmugam alias Auto Shanmugam, 35, from the same area. Her husband, A Marimuthu, 39, is working as a loadman in the central warehousing corporation (CWC) godown while Sathya was running an eatery on Gandhi Nagar main road. The couple have two children. Preliminary investigation revealed that Shanmugam used to visit the eatery regularly. Due to some differences, Marimuthu had asked his wife not to allow Shanmugam into the shop.
So, Sathya told Shanmugam not to come there any more. Police said that this infuriated Shanmugam. On Sunday night, Sathya was on her way to a grocery shop when Shanmugam intercepted her and launched an attack on her with a knife. In the impact, she suffered deep cuts on her neck and left rib and collapsed on the spot. Locals came in to her rescue and rushed her to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead. On getting the information, the Airport police identified the accused and caught him. Shanmugam has been remanded him in judicial custody.
