An exhibition-cum-sale of Kolu dolls opened at the Tamil Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation’s Poompuhar showroom in the city on Wednesday.
Inaugurating the event, Collector S. Sivarasu said that the exhibition will be held for a month at the showroom, which is celebrating its 46th anniversary this year.
Kolu dolls of various kinds and places including ‘marapachi’ doll sets, Kondapalli toys and dolls made of papier-mache, mud, marble and precious stones procured from West Bengal, Manipur, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are also on sale at the exhibition. The price of dolls range from ₹50 to ₹25,000.
Some of new and special dolls featured at the exhibition this year include Athi Varadar, Srirangam temple and Meenakshi Kalyanam.
Last year, the showroom sold dolls worth ₹16 lakh during the Navarathri festival season and for the current year, the sales target is ₹20 lakh. R. Gangadevi, showroom manager, and other officials were present. The exhibition will be open at the showroom on West Boulevard Road, Singarathope, till October 12, including Sundays.
