The Railway Protection Force has rescued 166 minors and recovered stolen railway property worth Rs 2.23 lakh during this current year so far in Trichy division, apart from Rs 5.50 lakh recovered as fine from people whose activities had affected cleanliness on railway premises, Trichy divisional railway manager (DRM) has said.
Speaking at 34th RPF Raising Day celebrations, DRM Ajay Kumar applauded the role of RPF staff in ensuring the safety and security of passengers.
“In Trichy division 36 trains are escorted every day by RPF utilizing 60% RPF personnel exclusively for passenger security. In the current year, so far, RPF has recovered stolen railway properties worth Rs 2.23 lakh and apprehended 75 people. They have prosecuted 4,547 offenders for unauthorized vending on trains and railway premises with realization of Rs 14.43 lakh as fine. Likewise, 2,450 offenders were fined under activities affecting cleanliness on railway premises and realized Rs 5.58 lakh as fine,” he added.
Apart from this, special drives were conducted against touting which led to arrest of 30 and collection of Rs 57,000 with the seizure of tickets worth Rs 1.52 lakh. 64 cases of valuable luggage left behind by passengers were retrieved and repatriated, he added.
Raising day is celebrated on September 20, the day RPF was conferred with the status of an armed force of the union through an Act of amendment of the RPF Act in 1985.
