AIADMK high command on Tuesday expelled party functionary Vanakkam Somu alias K Somasundram from the primary membership of the party for kidnapping a woman to compel her to marry him.
In a statement, AIADMK coordinator and deputy chief minister O Panneerselvam and joint coordinator and chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said that the party’s Rock Fort divisional treasurer Vanakkam Somu was stripped of his party post and primary membership of the party.
The statement also said he was sacked as he had been involved in activities detrimental to the principles and dignity of the party. His action had brought disgrace to the party, they said.
The leaders also asked the party cadre not to have any truck with him.
Somu and five others kidnapped the woman on Monday in an ambulance while she was on the way to the collage where she is working. They let her off near Thuvarankurichi on the outskirts of Trichy and escaped.
The Fort police rescued the woman. Investigations revealed that Somasundram is married and has two children.
The Fort police registered a case against Somu and five others. The accused were yet to be arrested.
