Key accused in gun-running case arrested in Bhopal by a Trichy “CB-CID”

The key accused in an arms trafficking case in Tamil Nadu was arrested in Madhya Pradesh by a special Tamil Nadu CB-CID team on September 27 and is being brought to Trichy. The team led by organised crime investigation unit (OCIU) inspector Elangovan Jennings nabbed Bansingh Thakur at the Bhopal railway station.

Bansingh is the kingpin in illegal sale of guns in Tamil Nadu and has been wanted for more than a year now.

On January 26, 2018, OCIU had seized two pistols and 10 bullets from a hotel near the central bus stand in Trichy. The team had arrested police constable S Parameshwaran, from Chennai, K Nagaraj, and R Siva, from Pattukottai in Thanjavur. The case had been registered by the Cantonment police in Trichy.

The wing also caught Dhivyaprabakaran from Puzhal in Chennai, Ettappan from V K Pudhur in Tirunelveli, Kalaisekar from Sankarankovil in Tirunelveli and Kalaimani in connection with the case.

Based on the information from the arrested, the wing arrested unlicensed gun supplier Krishna Murari from Sagar district in Madhya Pradesh and jailed him under the national security Act. The gang had been procuring guns from him and supplying them to buyers in the state.

Acting on the information, the special team searched for him in Beena, Sagar and Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh and caught him at the Bhopal railway station.

Bansingh was produced in a local court in Bhopal, which ordered to produce him in the jurisdictional court. He is likely to be produced in a court in Trichy on Tuesday.
