Members of the Tamil Nadu Government Doctors Association (TNGDA) from Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Pudukottai and Tiruchi staged a dharna on the premises of Government Medical College here on Wednesday demanding time-bound promotions.
Subsequent protests have been planned at Tiruvannamalai covering Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Perambalur and Ariyalur districts on October 12; at Tirunelveli covering Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari and Tuticorin districts on October 14; at Salem covering Salem, Namakal, Karur, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and Erode districts on October 17; at Coimbatore covering Coimbatore, The Nilgiris and Tiruppur districts on October 18; at Madurai covering Madurai, Theni, Sivagangai, Dindigul and Ramanathapuram districts on October 22; and at Chennai covering Chennai, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur districts on October 23. They will observe fast at all the District Headquarters or Medical College hospitals on October 21.
They have planned to adopt ‘patient-care only’ approach and keep away from activities such as meetings, handling classes, administrative work, and trainings from October 24 to 29.
Before 48-hour strike on October 30, they will volunteer ‘double duty before strike’ on October 29 for completing surgeries, procedures and therapy slated for October 30 and 31. Emergency medical teams will be formed in each block, sources said.
