District Collector S. Sivarasu said that the Economic Census 2019 is the census of the Indian economy through the counting of all entrepreneurial units in the country, which are involved in any economic activity.
The census would provide valuable information necessary to make policy decisions pertaining to the economy, he said inaugurating the seventh Economic Census, 2019 in Tiruchi district under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Statistics and in collaboration with CSC e-Governance Service India Limited.Mr. Sivarasu said that all establishments engaged in non-agricultural economic activities, including construction, except public administration and Defence will be surveyed.
In Tiruchi district, 517 village panchayats and 28 urban zones will be surveyed.Following the event, volunteers began collecting data at the Woraiyur market area. The data collected will include address, number of employees, annual income, PAN number, service tax details and GST details.
Mr. Sivarasu said that the data collected would be useful for every section of society and requested the people to give full cooperation during the 7th Economic Census.This is the first time the census is being taken with the assistance of technology- using tablet computers. A mobile App has been developed and made available to all surveyors to facilitate the process.
