The District Legal Services Authority in association with students of Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts presented a street play in the city on the occasion of World Children’s Day here on Monday.
The street play, led by K. Satish Kumar, assistant professor, Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts highlighted the importance of educating girl children, their protection and raising them with the required care. A team of seven, including two girls, presented the play at Central Bus Stand and at Chathram Bus stand. ‘There are so many issues which plague girl children – child marriage, dowry, harassment.
Yet, they are able to make progress in their fields. We must ensure that they are protected,’ he said. The play highlighted many legal assistance available to girls. It ended with actors asking the audience to take a pledge to protect girls. The programme was conducted under the guidance of K. Murali Shankar, Principal District Judge, Tiruchi, and R. Nandhini, Secretary, DLSA.Later, the team staged the play at the Tiruchi junction where they stressed dangers girl children face while travelling in trains like kidnapping and trafficking.
The Railway Police urged passengers to call the Railway helpline – 1512 or the Childline helpline – 1098 to get intervention.
