‘Montessori education’ exposure to the parents of kinder garden kids of SEVAI Shanthi Matriculation Higher Secondary School supported by OFI
Ms.Corlie,OFI Teacher volunteer in SEVAI School reports from SEVAI Shanthi School, as: “SEVAI Shanthi Matriculation Higher Secondary School Team of Pettavaithalai with the support of OFI,believes that working together with families and community in collaborative and respectful relationships plays a paramount role in children’s education and their development.
That’s why we, SEVAI Shanthi Matriculation Higher Secondary School team, Pettavaithalai organized today(29th Feb 2020) an opening session with the parents from Lower Kinder Garten and teachers to permit them having an exposure to the Montessori method and activities. We were really glad to welcome in total 65 parents (on 81 children). The Montessori activities were disposed on benches under the auditorium.
All the students respectively demonstrated their parents the process of each activity immersed in a calm environment. Then, all parents joined their children to share this learning experience. At the end, they were impressed about the ability of their children to stay focus during all the activity, especially when it comes to a precise and careful hands-on. It was also an excellent exchange opportunity between the parents, the students and the teachers. The parents appreciated the explanations of the teachers and the teachers showed satisfaction on this interchange.
They all testified the improvement of their children’s capacity for self-regulation and independence in their daily practice. Some parents were amazed by the significant gain in autonomy. They all gave the example of the mat and their habits to put everything in the right order. They surely testified that the method enhanced their daily routine gestures.
The aim of the day was to combine the proven methodology of Montessori education and expose the parents to a deeper knowledge on their children’s education. Both parents and teachers thought it was a wonderful and successful morning. They were all really thankful! Next Saturday, it will be the turn of UKG’s parents!”
