Officials said there were technical problems in launching the oxygen product unit, which was shut down at BHEL in Trichy.
BHEL was started in 1953 by the Public Sector on behalf of the Central Government in Thiruverumbur, Trichy District. Currently, more than 10 thousand people are employed here. For these, the hospital also operates on behalf of the company. Three oxygen-producing plants have been set up at the Bell premises for the use of this hospital and to produce the oxygen needed to ignite the boilers. Each of these produced 140 metric cubes of oxygen per hour.
Since 2003, all three oxygen production plants have been shut down. Currently, DMK, Rajya Sabha MP, Trichy Siva, MDMK, General Secretary Vaiko have requested for the reopening of closed oxygen plants at Bell to address the oxygen shortage caused by corona damage.
Regarding this, BHEL company officials said:
It is not possible to operate them immediately as the plants have been closed for many years. In addition, technically, the machines here are very backward. The most difficult thing is to immediately convert them to existing modern technology. Considering the future, there is an opportunity to align these and bring them into operation.
